Secular Adaptation of a Prayer of Confession

We tend to minimize the consequences of our actions by thinking they have only affected us; but every act of transgression on our part affects the lives of others in our community, our family and all of society. We think that our overt actions are the problem when the real issues are the matters of our hearts. By nature, we are presumptuous and proud. Let us not deceive ourselves into thinking that we can enjoy health in our spiritual lives and relationships without a deepening sense of the wrongs we have done (overt and covert) and the "right things" we have left undone. We need to find the humility, no matter how deep we have to dig, in order to seek forgiveness and restore the broken relationships with those we have offended, for our own sakes.
